Special Interest

The region of Southern Africa is a perfect holiday destination in which to indulge in special interest activities such as birdwatching, painting, golf, steam trains, photography, walking, motor-cycling and fishing to name but a few. We have partners in Southern Africa who can turn that dream into reality for our clients.

Here are just three examples:

Art Safaris
Equipped with easels, brushes and art materials Anne whisks to-be-artists off, setting them deep within the African bush. Anne, a South African artist, believes that each person has an innate ability to draw and paint, producing their own masterpiece. For those who have never put brush to canvas, this is a magical journey. Under Anne's expert tuition, you're guided step-by-step in the basic principles and are given free rein to express your creativity. Art Safari locations range from Big 5 reserves to smaller exclusive lodges. Art Safari packages are inclusive of accommodation, meals, game drives and all art materials. Non– participating partners are also welcome with alternative activities provided.

Bird Tours & Identification Courses
With over 920 species of birds to be found in Southern Africa, it is not surprising that the region is one of the most popular destinations enjoyed by birdwatchers from around the world.

The Southern African Experience is pleased to offer a range of tours, operated by Lawson’s Tours of Mpumalanga. Many UK Bird enthusiasts will be familiar with Peter Lawson and his company as they regularly exhibit and lecture at the annual British Birdwatching Fair, held at Rutland Water.

Forthcoming tours include:
The Lowveld & Escarpment Special
Wakkerstroom. Ndumo and Mhkuzi
Southern Limpopo
NW Province, Free State and the Northern Cape
Northern South Africa and Kruger Park
Zambia and Gabon

Golf

golf pic 2Southern Africa and South Africa in particular have some of the most famous and challenging courses in the world. Durban for example is a great golfing centre and was the home town of Gary Player. There are numerous courses close to the city and along the coast, notably the Durban Country Club and less than an hour’s drive north, Zimbali Lodge.

Then in the Eastern Cape is Fancourt and if you like the challenge of hazards, why not try the Hans Merensky Course in Northern Province?, where wild animals are often seen on the fairways.

The Durban Country Club, Zimbali and Hans Merensky are included in our special tour in October 2008. Why not join us for the thrill of a lifetime?
